13 benefits of reading

If you follow my blog and social media, you know I am passionate about 3 things. Writing children’s books, advocating for reading to kids and my two Pomeranians, Sugar & Cookie.

Below I put together 13 benefits of reading in a very concise format; those propositions you will find highlighted throughout my blogs. Please support the development of your child by setting a great example and start reading to him as early as infancy (or even earlier - as I pointed out in a previous blog post).

Reading to him will curate a love of reading for life, and you will ignite a desire in him that will help him to become as successful as he can be.

1.)    Reading is fun

2.)    Reading lets children escape realty, it develops and strengthens their imagination

3.)    Reading exercises a child’s brain

4.)    Reading expands a child’s mind and gives them more ideas.

5.)    Reading improves your child’s concentration; it calms down and relaxes them

6.)    Reading helps your child to have a better good night’s sleep

7.)    Reading adds to your child’s vocabulary and overall communication skills

8.)    Reading makes your child smarter

9.)    Reading develops empathy in your child

10.) Reading will help your child recognize interrelations and belonging

11.) Reading will spark your child’s creativity

12.) Reading a variety of books will prepare your child for life

13.) Reading builds good character and children with good character will make better choices.

I wrote similarly about this before in ‘Nine reasons why to instill a love of reading in your child early’. You can read that blog post by clicking here.
